Paint Workshops

We had a busy year last year with a full collection of our antiques on the 4th floor in Liberty.
As well as that... keeping the warehouse showroom well stocked was a full time job.
So workshops went way out the window.

As a result there's been people patiently waiting for the restart.
Apologies to them.

Its hard getting back in tune with the workshops but it helps when the people who come along are charming and easy to get along with.
Most are exactly that.

These gals were such fun

I haven't had anyone who has been a pain in the rear. Not yet anyway.

Saturday was the first in a while and the married couple who came along were delightful.

An inspiration.
They go and find some pretty obscure workshops and days out.
I think mine was one of the most normal!

They arrived with two chairs and a small table after scouring local junk shops.

I think they were Ikea chairs.
They wanted to put them in their conservatory and make them look a bit more interesting.

I use Annie Sloan paint.
But not only ...the world is full of the most glorious paints and colours.
The great thing with Annie Sloan though' is the self priming.
That and the most beautiful texture and colours.

This blue is new out.

 Called Giverny...Its so Monet ...gurgus

I always work upside down first.

That'll be the piece ...not me...though that might be interesting.

that way you see the item at every angle...not so likely to miss a bit.....

So, we painted them two colours distressed them and gave them a coat of varnish.
They were transformed.

While things were drying we played around
with crackle glaze and some gilding.

Looked at decoupage and craquelure.

Only so much you can do in one day,
but we managed  all of that,
lunch and a few laughs in between.

Look forward to seeing you again guys.

Watch this space if you want to come along.
I'll post dates very soon.

Liberty London

Well, we made it.
A year at Liberty.

We were  so thrilled to be asked to take the space on
the 4th floor at
Liberty in London last January

I had always adored the shop and been going there for many years.

yep thats me......big specs.....my son there grinning ..is now 38!

Looking gorgeous in the Liberty Cabinet... decoupage pots and a tole tray that my aunt painted in chinoiserie

The van left Arundel at 5.30 on a bitter January morning
loaded with French and English antiques.

I drove up with my lovely friend Allie... a little later!

We all spent the day displaying
and labelling.

the room was beautiful...felt like a baronial hall.

our friend Russ came to lend a hand

my aunt also paints these 19th century chests....clever gal

We are still there, but the room we were in is now to be
customer services.
So, we will have just one or two pieces around the atrium.

That's fine with us.

Its amazing to be invited in the first place.
Had some interesting jobs as a result.

Two vintage
pots to paint and decorate and send to
Hollywood Royalty
Jerry Bruckheimer.

Phone calls from people I kept thinking
"Why does their voice sound so familiar?"
Gary Kemp was one of these.
I tried to be cool each time
Never once mentioned Spandau Ballet!

So, yes, all in all an exciting, hard, hard work year, but we loved every minute of it.

Have a great day
