Our Extraordinary Liberty Adventure

In 2016 I received a phone call
purporting to be from Liberty.
I laughed my socks off....

" Ha ha ..very funny Allie...it's not April Fools Day is it?"

"Er no." said the voice at the end of the phone......

"This really is Liberty."

Would we like to take a small space on their 4th floor?

It was the decoupage pieces that had brought us to their attention.
They wanted to include them with a mix of our English and French furniture.

" Come and see us for a chat and we will show you the space."

It was Christmas 2016.

The 4th floor was crammed with festive lights, baubles, gifts....you could barely move for shoppers.

As we drove back to Arundel we worked out exactly what we would put in the space.

January 2017

Nass and our friend Russ were ahead in the old van.

I was driving up in the car with my chum Allie.

Nass called.
Garbled.
He was in a panic.

" Slow down Nass. What's up?"

"Bren...our stuff isn't even going to touch the sides."

" But... we measured it all out. Worked out the display."

" They've given us the whole of the
4th floor..."

A small business hidden in an old warehouse down an alley, behind the chip shop in Arundel ....and in one of the most prestigious shops in the world.

A small two person company...

....with little money behind us.....
actually we were broke....

But what we DID have was a warehouse full of beautiful French and English  antique stock....

...and an enormous drive to make this incredible opportunity work

.....we did make  it work
...with bells on

We stayed 2 years.

Liberty later asked us to return...but  lockdown happened and the world... and  our world...changed.

But....we will never forget our extraordinary Liberty adventure.
