Lunch with Good Friends, Antique and Vintage places in Sussex English Country Villages and Seaside Towns

Good Morning
from
a very chilly Arundel,
on the day before
SUMMER TIME
officially begins.LOL

To remind you what Summer used to be about, here is
a little bouquet to wish you a happy  weekend.

Friends and Sunday Lunches

Hows your week been?

Ours kicked off with  Sunday lunch
 at our dear friends,
Julie and Rudi's.

They have a lovely home only a few yards
away from the beach, here in Sussex.

Allie, our chum from Arundel, came too.

(She does the most amazing vintage style
scrap booking and journal making, by the way)

We all went to Sorrento, where Rudi hails from,
a few years ago, for their wedding.
What a stunning area of Italy.
My camera was in overdrive....

is that a yawn?

We want to see the new Pierce Brosnan film as it was filmed in Sorrento and around.

its a lovely lovely place.........

The Island of Capri

Anyway, back to earth and lunch .............

Here is Julie and Rudi's
antiques warehouse link

Here's a bit about their business...in their own words
Mangan Antiques supply decorative antiques to the trade and to collectors, here in the UK and international. We also offer an antiques prop hire service for film, TV and photography, and a vintage crockery hire service for vintage themed events. Plus a lighting rewiring service.
and a few pictures from their warehouse......

Lunch with them is always a very jolly affair
with lots of Italian, home made food and lovely wines.

They used to have a fantastic restaurant in Chichester called
Punchinella's that Allie and I helped to decorate,
complete with decoupage in the form of Italian Punch and Judy characters.

Their home is beautiful and they are just completing making the kitchen themselves.
Of course, there are some interesting antique pieces,
but also some wonderful personal touches.

The beautiful table, they made themselves,
with driftwood they found on the beach.

They worked hard on the kitchen and were in
the final stages when they needed some trim
for the cupboards they had made themselves.

and there they were, walking along the beach,
 with the lovely Millie,

When they found a load of pieces of mahogany trim,
all tied up with string.

The crazy thing was....they were all the right size for the job.
Spooky hey?

dessert in vintage china

Only Julie and I ventured out with Millie after lunch.
It was freezing.

Friends.......... nothing else in the world quite like them is there?

Else why did Facebook become such a phenomenon?

Rye and Homes and Gardens magazine

I've been busily working on a
19th century bamboo cabinet for a
Homes and Gardens magazine
photo shoot.

It gave me a few headaches as they wanted a specific
colour to tie in with the other pieces in the room.
These parrots are all hand tinted and then aged.

The shoot was in the middle of no-where, a few miles from Rye in Sussex,
and I had to deliver the piece and collect it the next day.
I hadn't been to Rye for many years so
took the opportunity to have a wander.

A lot of antique and vintage places to investigate.

sign of the times hey?

its very English..if you are visiting the UK it would be a great place to go

If you ARE a visitor....The old A 259 is a wonderful route,
all old villages and windy roads.

I made the mistake of going through Hastings,
I'd avoid that next time and go the Battle route heading towards Lewes.

The next day I went to collect my lovely bamboo cabinet,
and went via Seaford as I wanted to have a look in

Martin Johnson Antiques.

If you are trade...... you would be mad to miss this one out.
It is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING

English Villages

My plan was to meander through the country roads
 from Seaford to Alfriston.
(Another beautiful English Village)
But there were wretched road works...everywhere.

I went all round the houses sent off on various diversions and
ended up in the gorgeous village of Wilmington.
Wilmington

and that's where I decided to give
 up and head for Kent,
to collect by bamboo.

The Old Brewery Antiques Warehouses

We are really pleased as we have a new neighbour
next to our antiques warehouse.
We will all be open over this weekend 11-4 each day.

I'd wrap up warm...its cold down there at the moment

Nass and I will be doing some refurbishments and
will be getting together with our antique and vintage neighbours
to have an open day/ evening in the warmer weather.

We will keep you informed

If you have an antiques/ vintage business in Sussex,
and you work shall we say
Not on the High Street.
Maybe in a barn, or from home,
or a warehouse,
do let us know.

We are working on an Antiques and Vintage Trail in Sussex.
Places not in conventional shops in main shopping places.

meanwhile its on with the old bamboo

Have a great weekend
