PSSST Want to Know an Antiques Secret?

Hidden away in Sussex are tons of awesome places to buy antique and vintage pieces.

Coming to the area to buy?
Trade and travelling a long way?
Live here and want to explore?

Maybe you're a journalist writing a piece on antiques in the area?

It's really worth doing some legwork online before you traipse around the countryside.
Or ask someone from the area who really knows the place.

The Hoarde is a great way to start.

A large collection of antique dealers in one online spot.

https://www.thehoarde.com/

You'll find many antique and vintage dealers that have the most beautiful high street shops.

But you will also be able to track down places that aren't so easy to find.
Many dealers are like us, with interesting collections, trading from hidden warehouses.

We are a minutes walk from Arundel High Street.
Over the bridge.
Down the alley next to William Hill and left at the end.

You will find not one...not two...but three large antique warehouses.

And Us.

We are the last in the row.

Last but not least.
Arundel Eccentrics.
Also in Liberty London and soon to be in Hastings on Hudson New York.

Brenda and Nass are a husband and wife team, working in the beautiful town of Arundel, West Sussex where they have had an established and well-visited shop for many years. The quirky warehouse building that houses their large collection was once part of the 19th century Swallow Brewery and is now a backdrop for an interesting and diverse assortment of decorative antiques.
The showroom is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm and they are happy to open at other times for overseas clients or trade by appointment.
Arundel is a busy and very old town in West Sussex, with other dealers to see and many types of shops to visit, along with the wonderful and large Arundel Castle.  There is parking outside of Arundel Eccentrics own premises as well as a large pay and display car park in the town itself.
You will find all out latest piece on The Hoarde

and here's a sample of what we do, an interesting mix of English and French decorative pieces

and a smattering of Italian...like these 1930's Italian leather chairs

Other dealers are in farm buildings.

Some from beautiful houses.

Like Clealls Antiques
https://www.cleallantiques.co.uk/

They have a massive collection of the most beautiful antique mirrors.
Heres the link to their latest stock

One of the biggest names in antiques in the UK, trades from way, way out of town.

We adore visiting Martin Johnson in his warehouse.

It's inspiring.
A fantastic collection of English and French decorative antiques, all beautifully displayed.

Another place we love to visit is

http://www.vintagegardenco.com/

Sally runs the vintage garden co from her home in Coldwaltham just outside Pulborough.
You might not even know she was there unless you happened to pass and see the sign.

Our friends Julie and Rudi have a large warehouse in the village of Runcton near Chichester.

Specialising in Italian antiques they are particularly well known for their chandeliers.
You will always find them at Ardingly and Newark antique fairs with the Italian flag fluttering above their stand.

Here's a bit about them from their website
and one of their own photos of their warehouse

"Hidden in an unlikely location at the end of a farm track near Chichester, West Sussex, over the past 15 years Mangan Antiques have been quietly building up an impressive roster of international clients for their bespoke range of antiques and specialist designer pieces.
From window displays with dedicated sales areas at Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty’s to Paul Smith’s high profile opening of his Tokyo store, from the boutique designer salons of Manhattan and Chelsea to West End theatre designers and BBC costume dramas, all have benefitted from the specialist knowledge and unique sourcing capabilities of Mangan Antiques’ owners, Julie Mangan and Rudi Gargulio.
For many years Mangan Antiques would supply only to the trade, and this has seen their specially sourced pieces sold to dealers and designers throughout the world.  However, in 2008 they opened their doors to the public for the first time, enabling those outside the profession to benefit from Mangan’s unique range of antiques and unique designer pieces.
This successful expansion has seen an unexpected sideline - wedding lists.  “The bride and groom love it”, explains Julie.  “They know they’ll be selecting items that nobody else has, it’s so very special to get something unique.  We often find that couples will run two wedding lists, one at a department store for the things they’ll need, and one with us for the things they’ll love.”

However Rudi and Julie haven’t turned their back on their trade roots.  2010 has seen Mangan items at a medal-winning Chelsea Flower Show stand, featured in Homes & Antiques and Country Living magazines, being urgently flown by private plane from Italy to a Notting Hill shop, installed in the homes of Barbra Streisand and Harrison Ford, and in high demand from the dealers of the Kings Road, Lillee Road, throughout the UK and abroad – in fact, more than half the exhibitors at the prestigious Battersea Decorative Antiques Fair showed Mangan items on their stands!"

Just outside Arundel in a small village called Poling, is an old mushroom farm.

It now houses over 20 antique dealers, restorers, and shippers.
Didn't know it was there?

Here's a bit more about the place.

One of my favourites,
Martin and Mary Beany at Clubhouse Interiors.

It's stacked to the rafters.
No, really, you wouldn't believe.
With beautiful, interesting, & downright bizarre pieces.

They've supplied thousands of items for film props over the years.
Can't tell you which...top secret.
But you've probably seen them.
