Arundel Eccentrics

 Arundel Eccentrics
 started 25 years ago.

Nass and Brenda are
husband and wife
living and working in the historical
 and picturesque town of Arundel
 in West Sussex UK.

They have a large antiques emporium in a 19th century warehouse in the town.

Once part of the Arundel Swallow Brewery it now houses their large collection of English and French decorative antique furniture.

Hidden down a little alley, just five minutes walk from Arundel High Street.

How to find them?

Walk from Arundel High Street to the bridge.

Keep right.

Just after the bridge you will see a little alley.

Walk to the end, turn left and sharp left.

Arundel Eccentrics are the 3rd warehouse along.

Open by appointment or chance.

They are happy to open at any time.

For an appointment, just email or call.

Their Collection

“Our main collection is a combination of English and French decorative antique and vintage furniture.

Mostly the pieces are 19th century but occasionally mid 20th.

We regularly have:

English 19th century chests, English Victorian bamboo furniture, bookcases and cupboards.

French 19th century chairs for re-upholstery.

French 19th century farmhouse or monastery tables in oak.

French 1940s tambour filing cabinets (which are always popular for stylish storage) and 1940s extending bleached oak dining tables.

French buffets, buffet deux corps and enfilades.

Our English 1960s Rolls Royce lights from their Derby factory are extremely popular at the moment.

We also specialise in our own unique style of  “up cycling.”

We source Victorian chests, Victorian bamboo,

and 1930’s/40’s pieces, many in very bad shape.

After painting them black, occasionally with a hint of gilt, we decorate them with decoupage, using 19th century images and a Victorian style.

Much of our work goes to the US via the antique trade and also to UK interior designers.

Pieces feature regularly in national and international interior magazines.

The first chest we decorated in this style went to NYC via an antique trade client. It was a Georgian chest that we found in a very poor state. We painted it black and decorated it with decoupage fish all over.

We weren’t absolutely sure we had done the right thing, but the client was happy to give it a chance.

A few months later she sent us a copy of Architectural Digest.

And there it was.  Taaa Daaa

We started to decorate vintage buckets, pots and tubs as a sideline to sit with the furniture. Enhance it, if you like.

But these items took off to such an extent it’s now often hard to keep up.

In 2016 the decoupage work brought us to the attention of Liberty London. They invited us to take over their 4th floor.

When the phone call came, we thought it was a friend playing a joke.

I mean, in an old warehouse behind the Co-op in Arundel and the whole top floor of one of the most prestigious stores in the world.

It has to be a joke, right?

We stayed for 2 years.

It was quite an experience.

We were regularly receiving email and phone call orders from some extremely well known people.

Many were asking us to send decorated buckets or pots as gifts to their equally well known friends.

Exciting  times.

What's next, I wonder?"
