Happy Anniversary Bestie

I was going through divorce.

Ruddy painful aren't they?

Depressed...  no money....

I joined my son's school PTA at Slindon College.

Gave me a purpose
...something to do
.. no financial outlay

...perfect.

We organised a summer ball.

Posh, dressy do it was.

Loads of Arundel people came.

Many misbehaved..in a low key schoolkid way ...throwing bread rolls at their friends across the school refectory during dinner.

Ah .....it was great fun.

The sports teacher was on duty.

Handsome.
Young.

We talked him into wearing a tux and attending the do.

He hadn't wanted to.
Shy.

But he'd dashed to Chichester in the afternoon to hire one.

Looked good too.
All the mums wanted to dance with him...

I didn't...dance with him that is....but did  fancy him from afar.

A week after the ball, a friend called round for a glass of wine.

I'd already had a couple.

Or was it three?

" Why don't you phone him...ask him out?"
" I can't...I can't....can I?"

"Have another glass...."

 I slurred down the phone..

" I wondered if you'd like to walk to Burpham and have a drink at the pub."

PE teacher ... he'd love walking...

turns out he hated walking..but he came anyway.

The teaching staff made bets....
Gave us 6 months.

If I'm honest I would have said the same.

Chalk and cheese.

He was
..a  bit of a Casanova...

and..

....a little on the wild side

But fun to be with...and helped me through a difficult time...

...and let's be honest.. it didn't do my street cred any harm being seen on his arm...

he was young..
handsome
kind

and extremely charismatic
...people seemed to love him.

women often turned for a second look.
the occasional man did too.

So I went with the flow ...
"Enjoy it while it lasts...."

We'd been together 10 years when we married.

After attending 6 funerals in one year.. we decided we all needed something joyous.

Chichester registry.

St Nicholas Church blessing.

Arundel Town Hall for the bash.

It was fun.
Local friends and family.

I gave a speech.

The venue still used as a courthouse then
... .. DJ Den sat in the judges seat.

Ah such memories

Anniversary today.

Twenty three years married

Thirty three years together..

...not bad ...

... considering they...I...we.....

thought it would never last.

Our favourite song?

" You're Still the One" Shania Twain

Happy Anniversary to my bestie.
