An Awfully Big Adventure
Stepping into a different world..for just a few days
When Rose Hanbury, Marchioness of Cholmondeley (pronounced chumlee)
came to see us in our Arundel antique warehouse almost 2 years ago....
She wanted to have a four poster bed made for her son's room at Cholmondeley Castle.
then painted and decorated with horses in our style of decoupage, with touches of gilt.
We had worked on commissions before of course...but this was a new direction for us....
....going to a customer's home to start with
......and let's be honest..
...plus ...a high profile client, keen and excited to roll up their sleeves and decorate alongside was a first....
So...it was with some trepidation and a little bubble of excitement
It was hard work and not without it's complications...but enormous fun too.
I was able to enjoy the beautiful gardens and 70 acres of historic grounds in the early mornings before they opened ..
.....the sun rising above a blanket of mist..
was enough to wake me at dawn and have me running up the lane with my camera bag.
Not to mention the privilege of seeing inside the fabulous 19th century castle which is not open to the public.
Or.... working with my new decoupage assistant who was extremely good.
Listened and acted on instructions
Diligent
Always on time.
Did a good decoupage job.
Put up with my rambling stories without her eyes glazing over....
A joy to spend time with and work alongside...
the four poster bed?
....still a few areas to be finished...
So.....
...we will have to await the
" Big Reveal,"
But....as weeks go?
This was, without doubt,
"An Awfully Big Adventure. "

It was hard work and not without it's complications...but enormous fun too.
