Sussex Walks

My husband says I repeat myself.

I probably do.

Prepare yourself...
It'll only get worse Nass...

He said it in reference to my Instagram and blog posts...says I talk about the same things over and over.

There's one subject I know
...I go on about.

Morning meanderings with Elsa...

Important for us both

...with me?
Mind, body and spirit..

With my cocker spaniel chum?
Sniffs, socialising and running mostly.

....she complains if we do the same path regularly..

and no...that's not a joke...

stands rigid.....wears a sulky face... similar to a child having a tantrum.

The look that says....

"Really? We did this route 2 days ago..."

I march on...wave and call out,
"OK see you later...."

...does the trick.

What do we see?

Bluebells in woodland in spring

Hills of poppies

Fields of sunflowers

A haven for bats.

Here's a few  favourites.

A plastic gnome in the middle of nowhere was a surprise...

Sheep grazing in an ancient churchyard...

A jar of tiny shells from Cornwall nestling by a tree in Houghton Forest..
...with a hand written note dated 5 years ago..
" Take one for luck."

Swans checking out the menu at Swanbourne Lake....

The paths of the South Downs way...

Morning after the rain in Slindon woods.....
Roman roads ...

The little bridge in the woods built by a Gurkha regiment

We see notices for village cinemas and to beware of toads crossing the road...

reminders of what role a place had in more recent history

......air raid shelters and target practise spots for the war time home guard.

The secret garden in Binsted Woods frequented by Laurie Lee the author in the 1930's remains a firm favourite.

So at the risk of repeating myself again

Sussex...simply beautiful...

...whatever the weather...
