Finding Love...Where Least Expected

I was going through divorce.
Are they ever " amicable" ?

Joined the PTA at my son's school

Slindon College  near Arundel

...to take my mind off things..give myself a purpose.

We organised a summer ball.
Big posh do it was.

Loads of Arundel folk came along.
Some misbehaved...nothing too serious

Bread roll fights across the school dining room over dinner.

Who?
My lips are sealed.....

The master on duty was the dishy sports teacher.

The  mothers on the PTA committee talked him into hiring a dress suit and coming along.

Bit of eye candy.

A couple of weeks later a friend who had attended the ball came round to my house for a drink

" Why don't you phone him? Ask him out on a date?"
" Nooooo.....I can't"
" Have another glass of wine and do it."

Well..and yes..I did ..but it took two more before I picked up the phone.

We started dating.

My 13 year old son was mortified.
" Don't tell the boys at school."

The other teachers at Slindon College ran a book on us.

We couldn't have been more different... like chalk and cheese.

They gave us 6 months.. tops.

I found out later Nass himself had also put a bet on..I'm not sure how long he gave us........he never admitted.....I never asked...

But..somehow we worked...

Marriage?
We never felt the need.

Then came a tragic year
Five funerals.
Really close people.

" Let's get married...something joyous after all the sadness..."

The full down on one knee with a ring in a little box.....on New Years Eve.

So that year ..24 ago..we did.

An Arundel wedding.
We wanted it to be like a big local party.

My son gave me away.
A blessing at St Nicholas Church...we all walked down the hill to
a reception in the Town Hall..

...when it was still used as a courthouse.

The DJ in the judge's seat.

Local chums ran the bar.

Some sang at the church...had the congregation in tears.

The singing twins gently strummed throughout the meal.
(" You're Still the One" by Shania Twain.. our special song...what else?)

The bride gave a speech, along with the groom and best man...
yes...I had to have the last word

And they all lived happily ever after?
Get real....

But...pretty close...

Happy Anniversary to my extraordinary husband....

You're..... Still the One
