Upcycling
Arundel Eccentrics are based in an 18th century brewery warehouse in Arundel, Sussex.
Our collection comprises
English and French antique and vintage furniture....
but..
.... we also have our own style of upcycling
The first chest we painted black and decorated with fish was bought by a NYC antique dealer.
She thought it eccentric but would take a chance on it.
A few months later she sent us a copy of Architectural Digest.
And there was the chest.
Gracing those glossy pages.
Since then our trademark look has found it's way onto items of 1930s and 40s furniture, Victorian pieces, vintage enamel buckets and pots....
It's been featured in magazines.
We always respect that if an antique or vintage piece can be saved in it's original form....we do just that.
In 2016 Liberty London came upon our furniture and invited us to take our collection to their beautiful store.
We stayed three years and had the run of their entire top floor.
Imagine that?
In an old warehouse hidden down an alley in Arundel....and in one of the most prestigious shops in the world.
We were receiving orders from celebrities for individually decorated pots for friend's birthdays ...one order came from an actress to decorate and send pots to Hollywood film producer royalty and his wife...
.....exciting times...
We mostly use 19th century images for the decoupage but are always on the look out for something just that bit different.
Maybe old maps or music and quirky pieces such as the 1915 French soldier's scrapbook... with it's rather risque drawings.
Why black and gold?
It is reminiscent of chinoiserie, which is why we love it so much.....we occasionally work with dark reds and greens which give the same rich finish.
As to the items themselves...it's exciting as we never quite know what we will find....or what will find us..
