Thank You
A massive thank you to everyone who supported Nass in his endeavour to raise money for a local cause...
Yesterday afternoon we saw the culmination of it all...in an emotional gathering at Arundel Putting Green.
Lisa was a much loved friend and colleague of everyone at the putting gardens and teashop in Mill Road, Arundel, where she had worked for many years.
She died suddenly in March..leaving a heartbroken 13 year old daughter.
Her friends at the gardens were raising money for a memorial bench and Nass said he'd like to help by running a 5k.
Yesterday afternoon, with Lisa's family and friends we were able to see the bench and make a presentation to daughter Maisie.
Nass told me he wanted to raise money...
OK that's great, I thought...
He wanted to do it by running the Littlehampton 5k.
Ah ...there lay a bit of a problem.
MS is a blighter.
Some days walking is not good.
The legs can collapse at a moments notice.
A bit of training at the gym holding onto the walking machine is one thing...running along a windy seafront and staying upright?
Quite a different ball game.
But I hadn't counted on the intrepid Nass thinking this one through.
Golf trolley...not weighted down with a sack of potatoes...
tested in trials...
too unsteady...
and the spuds fell off.
But...
.....weighted down with a small bag of cement borrowed from Blastreat.
So...on an extremely gusty day in July on Littlehampton seafront Nass ran a 5k in 49 minutes 48 seconds...pushing a red golf trolley containing the aforementioned cement.....
That surely must be a first in the history of all 5 k's?
Not bad for someone with MS and who has suffered 3 cardiac arrests.
Well done Nass and everyone at the gardens...
A massive thank you to everyone who donated or supported him with words of encouragement...
On the way home after the run Nass said,
" Bren...this is the last crazy thing I'm going to do..."
Seriously?
I'm not holding my breathe..
